Dear Matt and Karen
Thank you so much for the excellent buffet and service you gave us on Sunday.
You the Chef and staff really worked really well to help us enjoy the afternoon.
Thank you for all you did, it was particularly important for all the family to
be together at that time.
Yours Sincerely
Margaret Goddard
I felt I should write to thank you for providing
us with the venue and such lovely food for my surprise party. I have spoken to
all of the guests since and everyone commented on the high standard of food and
service. We always had delicious meals when we have visited The Star, and as one
of our sons has a severe nut allergy. it is reassuring to know that everything
is cooked on your premises, we can be confident that Dave can eat safely.
Please pass on my thanks to the other staff who
working that night. You all made it a night to remember
Thank you
Best Wishes
Chris Mastrocola
Hi Matt
Just wanted to
say thanks for reserving us the table on Friday, really appreciated sitting
in the bar. Food was excellent, music fab and our friends are now converts!
Look forward to seeing you again soon.
Can you give me
some info on the Blues Afternoon, am sure we can get a group together to
come and enjoy the day.
Regards
Amanda
Hi Matt
I just thought that I would write to thank you for
organising the Blues Day. It was a brilliant day and the music was just
so good. We all enjoyed ourselves very much and we'll definitely be
coming again in the near future.
Keep up the good work and bye for now.
Carol

Hi Matt & Karen,
What a great day, well worth the trip from Oxfordshire!! Would have
got accommodation and stayed for the Sunday but was doing a course on
the Sunday - maybe next year.
Keep up the good work :+)
Regards,
Ian & Rosey.
Dear Karen
Thank you very much for a most enjoyable meal
last. As you may have heard from the noise of laughter, everybody had a
really relaxing time and they all said how much they liked the food.
The clean plates proved that point.
Your waitress with her pleasant smile was an added
bonus which was made even better with a lovely summer's evening. As
David Jason in 'Darling Buds of May' would say "It was perfick."
Many thanks again.
With kind regards.

I have lived in the area now for aver 20
years. I have visited the Star on
many occasions and not been too impressed infact I considered it a one drink
and go pub.
Last Saturday night my wife and myself dropped in for a pint after returning
from the cinema. I was delighted to see Steve whom I coached at football in
junior school. Moreover I was "gob smacked" at the jazz/blues singer
that
was playing. This guy was obviously a pro'. He was brilliant and held me and
the wife spell bound.
We considered, if this is the new standard of this pub we want more of it.
On speaking to Steve he said that the Sunday night jamming session was also
not to be missed.
My God was he right.
I arrived mob handed with all 3 of my kids complete with their boy /
girlfriends and close mates all wanting to know what the old man has been
rattling on about. Well all can say is "that was the best night I have had
for a very long time."
The kids and mates are of the same mind and I can assure you we will be
visiting you on a very regular basis.
Well done Matt and Karen you are transforming the place to a Mecca of music.
Good luck Stu

I visited The Star Inn in December 2001
and thoroughly enjoyed the dining
experience. I had the Fresh Mushrooms with Garlic and Cambazola Cream and
the Pork Steaks and found these dishes to be absolutely superb!!!!! The
atmosphere was delightful and the staff very friendly. I would recommend this
pub to anyone. Keep up the good work!!

A view of the Star Inn from the customers
side of the bar by
Greg McCrea:
There is a wee pub in Bentworth
just by the village green.
On it's grub I confess, I'm keen,
Which plays havoc with me girth.
On Friday I love the live music,
It's a hoot to dance and cheer.
At my age I'm careful with beer,
As to much and I'm Tom and Dick
The Team led by Karen and Matt,
Are friendly and like a larf.
I thought someone should by 'em a half,
Then thought, don't be a prat!
Folks on this side of the bar,
Like the banter and fun.
Like anywhere under the sun,
We like our wee pub, The Star
The Star Inn and
Bentworth by Jenny French
Bentworth is a small village in the county of Hampshire. It has a Junior school, church, village hall and 2 public houses, one of which is the Star,
the other being the Sun. There was once a third, called the moon, which has been gone for many years. Oh yes - and a very well kept village green.
I have lived in Bentworth with my husband for nearly 18 years during which time we have mostly made the Star our local watering hole. Since Matt and
Karen took residence some 2 1/2 years ago things have certainly taken a turn for the better. Matt's witty repartee and Karen's superb culinary
skills have turned the old place around.
When live music was introduced we were quite intrigued. Surly this cannot be profitable, the place is too small etc., However, Friday night has become
music night and generally a night NOT to be missed.
We have a wide variety of artists, most do covers, some do a few of their own in between the cover songs. Styles can range from Blues to Irish Folk to
Rock - you name it.
We have a number of regular artists who are very well received. John Young can never understand why 'It works in Bentworth' I think that we just know
talent when we hear it.
Another favourite artist Dave Glover of BC Sweet, last time he played was singing Radio Ga Ga, one person started the double hand clap, immediately a
large number of people joined in from all around the bar. About mid-way through the song he just had to say 'This Place!'.
I think that the main reason the atmosphere is so good is that most people know everyone else, we are all out for a good time and enjoy good music. It
is small and intimate so there is generally a lot of interaction, (usually on the way to the toilets).
When John first came last August he was very different to anything we were used to. Several people didn't like the fact that they didn't know any of
the songs - where are the covers we can all dance to etc. A few were quite taken and several CD's were sold - my husband bought 2, I stole 'Life
Underground' which is still in my car 15 months later. The more John came the more people bought CD's the more of us could sing along and by June he
had very much been adopted by the Star and the Star adopted by him as a home town gig - being one of the nearest venues to home that he plays.
So now we have a convention attended by people from all over in one of the most unlikely venues you could imagine......... what an amazing place.
